Glen Park Community Centre's journey

Glen Park Community Centre identified that the majority of equipment in the café and catering service was old and inefficient. The equipment was providing less output than required while wasting energy.

The community centre heard about the grant through the media and their local member. The funding allowed the centre to purchase equipment that was more energy efficient including a new fridge, coffee machine and milkshake maker.

The new equipment also allowed the centre to provide a superior product with less effort.

The new equipment is used daily and has reduced the centre’s overall energy consumption and energy bills.

The upgrade has also allowed the centre to expand its services and provide more catering to vulnerable community members.  Some of the expanded services include:

  • a healthy cooking class for seniors
  • a basic cooking class for adults with disabilities
  • cooking emergency relief meals for other organisations.

‘Not a day goes by without a comment being made on how amazing the new equipment is and how much it has reduced workloads,’ said Manager of Glen Park Community Centre, Heidi Butler-Moore

‘We have been able to generate additional income and business using the equipment which is a win for our centre and the community.’
