National Climate Change Partnership

Publication date

The National Climate Change Partnership (the Partnership) is a framework for the Australian Government and states and territories to work together to reduce emissions and adapt to climate change.

Through the Partnership, we work together to:

  • cooperate and coordinate action on our shared climate change priorities.

Australia’s climate and energy policy objectives are closely intertwined. The NCCP and the National Energy Transformation Partnership (NETP) together translate the strategic priorities of the ECMC into action.

There are 2 focus areas:

  1. Climate adaptation and resilience
  • Build resilience and reduce the impacts of climate change on Australia’s society, economy and environment.
  • Coordinate climate risk management and adaptation responses at all levels of government.
  1. Building a net zero economy
  • Shape the transition to net zero to accelerate investment in emissions reduction.
  • Enhance innovation and improve knowledge-sharing.
  • Prioritise opportunities where benefits flow equitably to communities.
  • Support new clean industries and technologies.
  • Enable early, consistent action for a coordinated and least-cost transition.

Climate Change Ministers will review the Partnership in 2028. Actions will be reviewed regularly to make sure they address the most important national issues.
