Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC)
Australian Government. The role of the AEMC is to make rules which govern the electricity and natural gas markets, including the retail elements of those markets. The objective of the AEMC’s work is to promote efficient, reliable and secure energy markets which serve the long-term interests of consumers.
Australian Energy Infrastructure Commissioner
Australian Government. The Australian Energy Infrastructure Commissioner facilitates the resolution of complaints and community concerns about new major energy infrastructure projects. The Commissioner also assists industry and governments to identify and adopt best practices for deploying infrastructure. Formerly the National Wind Farm Commissioner.
Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)
AEMO is responsible for operating Australia’s largest gas and electricity markets and power systems. It aims to deliver energy security for all Australians.
Australian Energy Regulator (AER)
Australian Government. The AER regulates wholesale and retail energy markets, and energy networks, under national energy legislation and rules. Their functions mostly relate to energy markets in eastern and southern Australia.
Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA)
Australian Government. ARENA leads Australia's efforts to deliver affordable renewable energy across the nation.
Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO)
Australian Government. ASBFEO assists and advocates for small businesses and family enterprises. It also provides access to dispute resolution services to assist businesses to resolve disputes.
Business.gov.au
Australian Government. Website for the Australian business community offering simple and convenient access to essential information from all levels of government about planning, starting and growing a business. Includes templates, tools and checklists for starting and growing a business.
Clean Energy Finance Corp (CEFC)
The CEFC invests commercially to increase the flow of funds into renewable energy, energy efficiency and low emissions technologies.
Clean Energy Regulator (CER)
Australian Government. The CER is responsible for accelerating carbon abatement for Australia through the administration of the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting scheme, Renewable Energy Target and the Emissions Reduction Fund.
Commercial Building Disclosure (CBD) program
Australian Government. CBD is a regulatory program that requires energy efficiency information to be provided in most cases when commercial office space of 1000 square metres or more is offered for sale or lease.
Energy Consumers Australia
Independent organisation. Created by the Council of Australian Governments. Energy Consumers Australia promotes the long-term interests of consumers with respect to the price, quality, safety, reliability and security of supply of energy services. It conducts research and analysis, identifies issues and works with other consumer organisations, ombudsmen, energy companies, regulators and governments to improve outcomes for consumers.
Energy Made Easy
Australian Government. Helps residential and small business energy consumers to navigate the often complex electricity and gas retail markets to find a suitable energy offer. You can compare electricity and gas offers for households and small business in the ACT, NSW, south-east Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.
Energy Rating
Australian Government, state and territory governments and the New Zealand Government. The Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) Program helps improve the energy-efficiency of a range of appliances and equipment. By buying more efficient models, households and businesses can consume less energy, save money on their energy bills, and help to reduce emissions.
Home Energy Rating
All Australian governments. Home energy ratings measure the energy efficiency of Australian homes. The Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) governs Home Energy Rating assessments across Australia. Ratings are available for new and existing homes. They help people make choices about their home to lower energy bills and improve comfort.
National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS)
NSW Government. NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment on behalf of the Australian Government and state and territory governments. NABERS is a national rating system that measures the environmental performance of Australian buildings, tenancies and homes.
Sustainability in Schools
Australian Government Department of Education. An online portal for class-room ready, sustainability education resources. Includes case studies on how to create change and information on how to link resources back to the curriculum. Administered by the Australian Association for Environmental Education.
Victorian Energy Compare
Victorian Government. Victorian Energy Compare is an independent government tool to help you to compare electricity, gas and solar offers from all energy retailers, based on information you provide about your household or small business.
Your Home
Australian Government. A guide to building, buying or renovating a home. It shows how to create a comfortable home with low impact on the environment – economical to run, healthier to live in and adaptable to changing needs. It includes Design For Place with architect-designed sustainable energy-efficient house designs free to download.
energy.gov.au is a Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water website.
