Measures to Improve Transparency in the Gas Market - Decision
Publication date
A Decision Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) was endorsed by Energy Council on Friday 20 March 2020. The RIS examined options to improve transparency in the eastern and northern Australian gas markets. The RIS focused on addressing information gaps and asymmetries relating to gas and infrastructure prices, supply and availability of gas, gas demand, and infrastructure used to supply gas to end-markets.
This work resulted from Energy Council tasking officials in December 2018 with consulting on gas market transparency measures and associated regulatory changes identified in the:
-
2016 AEMC East coast wholesale gas markets and pipelines framework review
-
Joint ACCC and Gas Market Reform Group (GMRG) 2018 report on Measures to improve transparency in the gas market.
A Consultation RIS was published on 8 August 2019. The consultation closed on 27 September 2019. Submissions are available below.
Stakeholder meetings were held in Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide between 22-30 August 2019.
