On 19 November 2020, Energy Senior Officials released for consultation a package of draft regulatory amendments required to give effect to the gas market transparency reforms.

Stakeholder feedback is sought on options to reform the Australian Energy Regulator’s wholesale market monitoring powers. It is anticipated reforms will assist policy makers in managing the market, facilitate participants developing an open, competitive market and help end users by providing more stable and predictable energy pricing and the associated economic benefits.

On 28 October 2022, Energy Ministers agreed to amendments to the National Gas Law and Regulations to bring hydrogen blends, biomethane and other renewable gases under the national gas regulatory framework.

On 12 August 2022, Energy Ministers agreed to establish a new National Energy Transformation Partnership. The partnership is a framework for national alignment and cooperative action by governments to support the smooth transformation of Australia’s energy sector.
