Australian energy consumption - fuel type

This figure shows Australian energy consumption, by fuel type in petajoules from 1978–79 to 2018–19. Energy consumption rose by 0.6 per cent in 2018–19 to reach 6,196 petajoules. This compares with average growth of 0.7 per cent a year over the past 10 years. Fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) accounted for 94 per cent of Australia’s primary energy mix in 2018–19.
