Helping the switch to green aluminium
The Australian Government is making a $2 billion investment into our aluminium industry positioning it as a cornerstone of the nation’s economic and green future.
A key initiative is the Green Aluminium Production Credit. The credit offers targeted support to aluminium smelters transitioning to renewable energy by 2036.
Smelters will receive incentives for every tonne of clean aluminium produced over a decade, boosting confidence and investment in local facilities.
Australia is the world’s sixth largest aluminium producer. The production credit puts us in a position to:
- expand our green footprint
- reach net zero emissions by 2050
- lever our solar, wind and critical mineral resources with local aluminium manufacturing
- continue developing a skilled workforce
- build secure, well-paying jobs across regions.
With a fully onshore aluminium supply chain, this investment will drive economic growth and sustainability.
