Two years free registration for zero emissions vehicles

The ACT Government is offering 2 years of free registration for new or used zero emissions vehicles in the ACT that have been purchased or acquired from 24 May 2021 and before 30 June 2024.
If you are eligible, the waiver will only apply to the registration component of vehicle registration fees. All other relevant fees, charges, or levies related to registering a vehicle will remain, such as the annual cost of Motor Accident Injuries Insurance.
Eligibility
Eligible vehicles include:
- new or used passenger and goods carrying vehicles under 4.5t that have an electric motor powered by electricity alone or cars powered by a hydrogen fuel cell
- vehicles that have been converted from a different power source into one of the above vehicle configurations and certified as registrable on or after 24 May 2021 and before 30 June 2024
- second hand zero emissions vehicles imported into Australia that meet the above requirements.
The following vehicles are not eligible:
- zero emissions vehicles purchased before 24 May 2021 (however they will receive a 20% ongoing reduction in registration fees)
- zero emissions heavy vehicles (e.g. trucks) and motorcycles (with 2 and 3 wheels).
Applicants for the waiver must:
- finalise the vehicle transaction or acquire the vehicle on or after 24 May 2021 and before 30 June 2024.
- not register the vehicle in their name prior to 24 May 2021
- garage the vehicle in the ACT
- hold an ACT Drivers License
- have a physical premise in the ACT if the applicant is a business or company.
