How much you can get

You can get $650 in bill relief for your small business in Queensland from 1 July 2023 if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Who can get it

You can get the bill relief if your small business:

  • is based in Queensland
  • is on a separately metered business tariff with your electricity retailer
  • has an annual electricity consumption below the threshold of 100 MWh.

Who can’t get it

You are not eligible for the small business relief if:

  • you run your small business using electricity from your home
  • your annual electricity consumption is above the small business threshold of 100 MWh.

If you are in an embedded network

If your business is in an embedded network (e.g. shopping centre), you may also be eligible to receive the bill relief.

You can get the bill relief if your small business:

  • is based in Queensland
  • is separately metered and charged for electricity use by your embedded network operator or billing service provider
  • has an annual electricity consumption below the threshold of 100 MWh
  • had an open electricity account with your embedded network operator or billing service provider on 1 July 2023.

The rebate will be credited to your electricity bill by your embedded network operator or billing service provider in the second half of 2023, so you do not need to do anything. The rebate will be applied to your account as a lump sum payment ($650).

When you will get it

If you are eligible, your electricity provider will automatically apply the bill relief to your electricity account from 1 July 2023, reducing the amount you owe on your next bill. You do not need to do anything.

For most small businesses, the bill relief will be credited to electricity bills on a quarterly basis ($162.50 per quarter) commencing from 1 July 2023. Exact timing will depend on retailers’ system requirements and individual billing cycles.

If your business becomes eligible for the bill relief part way through 2023-24, you will be eligible to receive all future quarterly rebate payments for the remainder of the year.
