How to get it

In most cases your electricity provider will automatically apply the bill relief to your electricity account to reduce the amount you owe on your next bill.

How and when this happens depends on your situation.

If you already get help from your state government

If you already get the Tasmanian annual electricity concession as at 1 July on the relevant year, you don’t need to do anything. You will start getting the bill relief from 1 July 2023.

If you are eligible for help from your state government but do not currently get it

If you think you are eligible for the Tasmanian annual electricity concession but aren’t getting it, you should contact your electricity retailer to register. You will then also get the new bill relief from 1 July 2023.

If you hold or receive an eligible concession card or get a payment from Services Australia

If you aren’t already eligible for the Tasmanian annual electricity concession, but you held or received have one of the eligible concession cards or payments from Services Australia, you will be contacted directly by Services Australia in September 2023 to tell you what you need to do.

If you have not heard from Services Australia by 30 September, please contact Services Australia.

If you held an eligible card from DVA

If you aren’t already eligible for the Tasmanian annual electricity concession, but you held an eligible DVA card, please contact your electricity retailer up until June 2024 to apply. They will ask for your UIN or Veteran File Number and consent for them as the provider to check your eligibility for the new bill relief.

If you live in an embedded network

If you don’t receive electricity from an electricity retailer and are on an embedded network (for instance you receive electricity via your landlord in a caravan park or retirement home or village) you may still be eligible for the household rebate and will need to apply for the rebate. If successful, a grant payment of $250 will be made to eligible customers as a one-off payment for each of 2023-24 and 2024-25 financial years.

To find out more about how to apply go to the Renewables, Climate and Future Industries Tasmania website.

When you will get it

Eligible customers of retailers will receive two bill rebates of $125 per year for two years. Rebates will be applied to customer accounts reducing the amount you owe on your next bill, in the September and June quarters of 2023-24 and 2024-25.

From August 2023, embedded network customers can apply for one grant payment of $250 per year for two years in 2023-24 and 2024-25.
