How much you can get

Eligible vulnerable households who receive the $372 Queensland Electricity Rebate will automatically receive a $700 Cost of Living Rebate on their electricity bill in 2023-24, bringing their total relief to $1,072.

All other Queensland households will automatically receive a $550 Cost of Living Rebate on their electricity bill in 2023-24.

Who can get it

Certain eligible households can get a $700 Cost of Living Rebate, in addition to $372 under the existing Queensland Electricity Rebate Scheme.

All other Queensland households will automatically get a $550 Cost of Living Rebate automatically applied to their electricity bill in 2023-24.

Please note: To be eligible for the Queensland Electricity Rebate Scheme, you must hold a relevant concession card and either live alone or share your principal place of residence with only other individuals who meet specific eligibility requirements as outlined on the Queensland Government website.

Find out more about the Queensland Electricity Rebate Scheme on the Queensland Government website.

How to get it

In most cases your electricity provider will automatically apply the Cost of Living Rebate to your electricity account to reduce the amount you owe on your next bill. How and when this happens depends on your situation.

If you currently get the $372 Queensland Electricity Rebate

If you already get a rebate through the Queensland Electricity Rebate Scheme, you don’t need to do anything. The $700 Cost of Living Rebate will be automatically applied to your electricity account on a quarterly basis in 2023-24 ($175 per quarter).

If you do not receive the $372 Queensland Electricity Rebate

If you do not get the Queensland Electricity Rebate, you will receive a $550 Cost of Living Rebate. The rebate will be automatically applied to your electricity account on a quarterly basis in 2023-24 ($137.50 per quarter).

If you do not get the Queensland Electricity Rebate and think you may be eligible, you can check your eligibility on the Queensland Government website or contact your electricity provider.

If you live in an embedded network

If you live in an embedded network, you may also be eligible to receive the Cost of Living Rebate.

Typically, you live in an embedded network if you get your electricity from your strata or landlord in a caravan park, apartment building, or retirement home or village.

To be eligible for the rebate, you must be separately metered and charged for your electricity use, and have an open electricity account with your embedded network operator or billing service provider on 1 July 2023.

The rebate will be credited to your electricity bill by your embedded network operator or billing service provider in the second half of 2023, so you do not need to do anything. The rebate will be applied to your account as a lump sum payment (i.e. $550 or $700 depending on eligibility).

When you will get it

For most households, the Cost of Living Rebate will be credited to electricity bills on a quarterly basis commencing from 1 July 2023. Exact timing will depend on retailers’ system requirements and individual billing cycles.
