Townsville’s Kath and Kin Association provides opportunities for people with psychiatric and physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, and people with disabilities. After an energy evaluation identified the key opportunities to reducing energy use at the not–for-profit organisation, management took action by: painting the roof with heat-reflective paint; installing high efficiency light emitting diodes (LED) lighting; installing strategically placed ceiling fans to allow air conditioning to run at a more efficient (higher) temperature; and installing baffles on air conditioning units, to prevent hot air being recirculated. The 45% savings on energy bills already achieved will divert additional services to the not-for-profit organisation’s clients.
