Reductions came from: replacing 50W halogens with energy efficient 35W halogens; installing motion sensors on external flood lights; fitting a timer to the electric hot water system; installing 1.6kW solar PV system; and numerous behaviour changes.

Located at the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef, Lady Elliott Island Eco Resort has done extensive work reducing its energy consumption. The Queensland Murray-Darling Committee (QMDC), through its Energy Efficiency Information Grant Project, was given the opportunity to observe and detail an energy efficient retrofit of the car washing operation after the business changed ownership.
At Capilano’s Richlands honey production facility, electricity and natural gas are the primary energy sources and input costs. Of the 18,000 gigajoule (GJ) (a cost of $580,000) used on site, 25% is used by thermal loads of pasteurisation and hot water generation. An assessment took into consideration upcoming business changes (the build of a new facility was pending) and advised Capilano about opportunities to save money on lighting, solar PV, thermal system insulation and heat recovery, and compressed air heat recovery.
