A fair deal on energy

Date

The Australian Government is:

  • delivering an affordable and reliable energy system
  • putting energy consumers first
  • taking real and practical action to reduce emissions and meet our international commitments

Energy assessment - Thiess' Australian Mining business unit

Date

Thiess’ Australian Mining business unit, through effective use of the Energy Efficiency Opportunities (EEO) Assessment Framework, found new efficiencies and dollar savings. The projects implemented were payload management, automating mobile lighting equipment, plant idle-time management, and turbo idle-down time.

Systems optimisation to improve energy productivity - several companies

Date

The purpose of these case studies is to demonstrate how systems optimisation can be used to improve energy efficiency and productivity in a wide range of industrial applications. They were developed through companies' participation in the Energy Efficiency Opportunities (EEO) program. Examples from 3 companies highlight different aspect of systems optimisation:

Energy-mass balance - mining

Date

This guide outlines the key considerations for the development of an energy-mass balance (EMB), a method for accounting for the energy and material flows, within a mining site. It was designed for corporations to meet the requirements of the Energy Efficiency Opportunities (EEO) program but can used by any large energy user as a guide on how to effectively develop an EMB.

Energy Savings Measurement Guide

Date

This guide provides corporations with technical advice about estimating and measuring energy efficiency opportunities, presenting results to decision-makers and tracking and reporting the opportunities. It also provides guidance on how to identify and estimate the wider business benefits and costs from implementing energy efficiency opportunities. It was designed for corporations to meet the requirements of the Energy Efficiency Opportunities (EEO) program but can be used by any corporation seeking to improve the accuracy of their energy savings estimates and measurements.

Energy Efficiency Opportunities - Assessment Handbook

Date

This handbook provides guidance for large energy users on how to effectively conduct an energy efficiency assessment.  It draws on the practical experiences of companies and consultants that have undertaken effective energy assessments and can help corporations plan and implement assessments in a way that will optimise business outcomes. The handbook was designed for corporations to meet the requirements of the Energy Efficiency Opportunities (EEO) program but can be used by any large energy user.

Analyses of diesel use for mine haul and transport operations - several companies

Date

This case study demonstrates analyses of diesel use in trucks by trending energy data over time, development of models and simulations, use of indicators, and benchmarking, including theoretical benchmarking. It also shows how an Energy Mass Balance (EMB) has been applied to rail operations and provides examples of comprehensive analyses of diesel use in mining operations used by Fortescue Metals Group Ltd, Downer EDI Mining Pty Ltd and Leighton Contractors Pty Limited. It was developed through these companies' participation in the Energy Efficiency Opportunities (EEO) program.
