This Independent Review into the Future Security of the National Electricity Market Preliminary Report identifies the complex forces driving a rapid transition across the electricity sector. It seeks input on key questions to navigate the transition in line with consumer expectations for a secure and reliable service, at an affordable price, that delivers on our national emissions reduction commitments.

Dr Finkel and the Panel thank respondents for their submissions. The submission period closed on 21 February 2017.

Energy efficient design and possible savings - Willowdale Community Centre

Case study prepared by Team Catalyst showing how the design of a community centre in a retirement village in western Sydney might change if the building had been designed to comply with the 2019 version of the energy efficiency provisions in Section J of Volume 1 of the National Construction Code, rather than the 2016 version. The case study focuses on the building fabric provisions. The case study was completed in early 2018 using an early draft version of Section J 2019 and does not fully reflect the final version published in February 2019.  

Proposed building upgrades - Roselands Boarding House

Date

The Boarding House project at Roselands NSW is still in design development stage, and consists of 9 sole occupancy units and a communal lounge. Out of the 9 units, 6 are proposed to be two storey structures, with a mezzanine bedroom. The 3 remaining units and communal lounge room are proposed to be single storey structures. The project is a class 3 building under the NCC, located at Roselands, inner western Sydney which falls in NCC Climate Zone 5.

Liddell Taskforce - Terms of Reference, report, statement and response

Date

In 2015, AGL announced it would close Liddell Power Station in 2022. AGL later extended this to April 2023. This would make Liddell the next in a series of coal power station closures. The Australian Energy Market Operator warned there would be a higher risk of blackouts in NSW after Liddell closes, without more investment in dispatchable power. As a result of these concerns the Australian Government set up the Liddell Taskforce in August 2019.

Modelling for the Liddell Taskforce

Date

The Liddell Taskforce was required by its Terms of Reference to model the impact on wholesale and retail power prices from Liddell’s closure, and the options identified to maintain similar price, reliability and security outcomes. The Taskforce commissioned Frontier Economics to undertake the modelling work.
