Underwriting New Generation Investments program - Consultation Paper

The Australian Government consulted on the Underwriting New Generation Investments program during October and November 2018. The Honourable Minister for Energy, Angus Taylor, hosted a roundtable in Sydney on Wednesday 7 November 2018, and the Department of Environment and Energy hosted a consultation forum in Melbourne on Friday 9 November 2018.

Buildings Energy Efficiency Taskgroup (BEET) reports

The International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC) has 10 task groups, which includes the Buildings Energy Efficiency Taskgroup (BEET) co-chaired by Australia and the USA. BEET is a collaborative platform for countries to research, inform and support the development and implementation of effective building energy efficiency policies, with a core focus on building rating systems and building codes.

Power factor correction - Woodburn Orchard

The Woodburn Orchard’s facility in Batlow NSW produces and packs around 4000 tonnes of apples a year. Woodburn is classified as a large enterprise when compared to other orchards that were audited. From March 2013 to February 2014 the pack house and cold stores consumed over 488,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity at a cost of approximately $138,000. The biggest opportunity for Woodburn to reduce electricity costs is to optimise its ‘power factor’. Site saving opportunities:
• save up to $3500 a year, with an initial capital investment of $8500

Proposed building upgrades - Roselands Boarding House

Date

The Boarding House project at Roselands NSW is still in design development stage, and consists of 9 sole occupancy units and a communal lounge. Out of the 9 units, 6 are proposed to be two storey structures, with a mezzanine bedroom. The 3 remaining units and communal lounge room are proposed to be single storey structures. The project is a class 3 building under the NCC, located at Roselands, inner western Sydney which falls in NCC Climate Zone 5.

Energy efficient design and possible savings - Willowdale Community Centre

Case study prepared by Team Catalyst showing how the design of a community centre in a retirement village in western Sydney might change if the building had been designed to comply with the 2019 version of the energy efficiency provisions in Section J of Volume 1 of the National Construction Code, rather than the 2016 version. The case study focuses on the building fabric provisions. The case study was completed in early 2018 using an early draft version of Section J 2019 and does not fully reflect the final version published in February 2019.  

Extension of Stockland Green Hills Shopping Centre

Date

Case study prepared by Team Catalyst showing how the design of a shopping centre in Maitland, NSW, might change if the building had been designed to comply with the 2019 version of the energy efficiency provisions in Section J of Volume 1 of the National Construction Code, rather than the 2016 version.  The case study uses the Greenstar verification method (JV2) newly added to the 2019 version of Section J. The case study was completed in early 2018 using an early draft version of Section J 2019 and does not fully reflect the final version published in February 2019.
