Consumers can find it difficult to assess the true value of an appliance by balancing the retail price against its long-term running costs.
Testing by the Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Government (BETA) confirmed the belief that energy-rating labels help consumers make good choices when buying online.
This effect is significant enough to inform policy goals of reducing carbon emissions and household energy costs.
BETA’s report, Energy labels that make cents, highlights the results from the trial.
