Promoting Australian hydrogen through a certification scheme

The Australian Government has released a discussion paper on the design of a Hydrogen Guarantee of Origin (GO) certification scheme.

The scheme will measure and track carbon emissions from hydrogen production. It will also examine the ways in which clean hydrogen can be produced. These include renewable sources and methods burning fossil fuels with substantial carbon capture and storage.

An Australian hydrogen industry could generate more than 8000 jobs, many in regional areas. It has the potential to deliver over $11 billion a year in gross domestic product by 2050.

Hydrogen is a key priority under the government’s Technology Investment Roadmap. The government has invested more than $1 billion to support development of Australia’s clean hydrogen industry.

Government welcomes input from industry and potential buyers of hydrogen.
