Improving the energy efficiency of lighting in Australia
We are considering how to improve lighting energy efficiency, from the lights you use in your home to the ones you choose for your business.
We’re hosting a consultation process to understand all views relating to the proposed introduction of Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for LEDs. We are also considering broadening the scope of and increasing MEPS for incandescent and halogen lamps.
The Australian Government is committed to helping address rising cost-of-living pressures by shielding households and businesses from energy price rises, as well as reducing demand on the energy grid and reducing emissions.
The proposed new benchmark for LED performance and the phase-out of less efficient lighting is one of the many ways we’re helping do this, which also keeps us on track for Net Zero 2050.
The public consultation for ‘Investigating future regulatory options for lighting products’ will be open for feedback from 15 December 2022 to 15 March 2023.
Have your say at the department's Consultation hub.
