Households increase rooftop solar and energy efficiency uptake

The Clean Energy Regulator's (CER) Carbon Market Report for Quarter 1 2023 has been released. The report shows that Australians are increasingly taking greater control of their energy costs.

CER Chair David Parker said the report shows installation of energy-efficient water heaters continue record growth up more than 40% from the same quarter last year. ‘About 80% of installations of air source heat pumps and energy-efficient water heaters are replacing out-dated, less efficient electric systems,’ Mr Parker said.

The report also shows that rooftop solar is expected to add 3 gigawatts (GW) total capacity in 2023, with 0.68 GW of capacity already installed in Q1. 3 GW is enough to power more than 650,000 homes and an increase from the 2.8 GW last year.
