The Australian Energy Statistics update 2020 contains the latest report and dataset for 2018-19.
The Australian Energy Statistics is the authoritative and official source of energy statistics for Australia to support decision making, and help understand how our energy supply and use is changing.
The new data shows gas consumption increased the most of all energy types in 2018-19, by 35PJ, up 2%.
In total, natural gas provided 26% of Australia’s energy mix in 2018-19 and 20% of total electricity generation.
The new data also shows that total renewable energy consumption increased by 18PJ. This is a 5% increase on the previous year in percentage terms, while electricity generation from renewables was up 17% in 2018-2019.
The Hon Angus Taylor MP, Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction said getting the balance right across a mix of energy generation is crucial to ensuring households, businesses and industry have reliable and affordable energy.
‘The government is focused on ensuring all Australians have the energy they need, when they need it and at the right price,’ the Minister said.
The dataset is accompanied by the Australian Energy Statistics Update report, which includes an overview and analysis of the latest trends. Infographics for the Australian Energy Statistics by state and territory are available here.
