6 Star Green Star multi-residential project

The first residential development to achieve a Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) 6 Star Green Star rating in Australia uses 50% less energy than a typical urban dwelling.

The Prince’s Terrace Adelaide in Bowden, South Australia, was developed by Defence Housing Australia, the Prince’s Trust Australia, and Renewal SA.

‘The Prince’s Terrace Adelaide demonstrates that small projects can make big choices when it comes to sustainability,’ says Romilly Madew, Chief Executive Officer of the GBCA.

Each of the buildings is orientated to maximise natural cross-ventilation and daylight received throughout the year.

Local, low-carbon building materials were used in construction of the project.

A 1.5kW photovoltaic system is installed on each roof. Highly-efficient zoned air conditioning systems have been installed for use on hot days.

Double-glazing provides insulation as well as noise-reduction; the walls and roofs are also heavily insulated.

See Architecture and Design and GBCA for more information on the Prince’s Terrace Adelaide project.
