Energy emergency management forums

The Department of the Environment and Energy leads and participates in gas, liquid fuel and electricity emergency management forums, to ensure effective communication and collaboration between governments and industry in energy supply emergencies. Energy supply emergency plans and procedures are established and updated through these forums.

The forums include:

National Electricity Market Emergency Management Forum (NEMEMF)

A key responsibility of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is to ensure the reliability and security of the National Electricity Market (NEM). During a major power system emergency in the NEM, AEMO convenes the NEMEMF to meet as often as required to assist with managing the emergency.

National Gas Emergency Response Advisory Committee (NGERAC)

The NGERAC is a working group of the COAG Energy Council which advises governments on responses to, and management of major gas supply interruptions affecting two or more jurisdictions. NGERAC will meet as often as required to assist with managing the emergency.

National Oil Supplies Emergency Committee (NOSEC)

The NOSEC is a working group of the COAG Energy Council which advises governments on responses to, and management of national liquid fuels emergencies. During an emergency, NOSEC will meet as often as required to assist with managing the emergency in accordance with the National Liquid Fuel Emergency Response Plan.

The National Operating Committee (NOC) for Jet Fuel Assurance

The NOC is a voluntary industry-led body established to minimise the risks of jet fuel supply disruption at eight major Australian airports and three regional international airports. NOC comprises all of the major Australian jet fuel suppliers. The Australian Government observes NOC operation as an Independent Person.
