On 28 October 2022, Energy Ministers agreed to amendments to the National Gas Law and Regulations to bring hydrogen blends, biomethane and other renewable gases under the national gas regulatory framework.
On 13 April 2023, Energy and Climate Change Senior Officials released for consultation draft regulatory amendments and a consultation paper proposed to improve and expand the Australian Energy Regulator Wholesale Market Monitoring and Reporting Framework.
On 19 May 2023, Energy Ministers agreed to amendments to the national energy laws to incorporate an emissions reduction objective into the National Electricity Objective, National Gas Objective and National Energy Retail Objective (the national energy objectives) respectively.
Energy Senior Officials have released a consultation paper on potential measures for inclusion in the Reliability and Supply Adequacy Framework. Stakeholder feedback is sought on the need for, and high-level design of, the potential measures.
On 26 September 2022, Energy Senior Officials released for consultation a package of draft regulatory amendments required to provide the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) with the tools to identify, signal and manage risks to east coast gas supply adequacy.
The purpose of this consultation paper is to seek feedback on four model options for congestion management, developed through significant stakeholder consultation. Going forward, the ESB will continue working with stakeholders to assess and develop a preferred model to recommend to Ministers.
