The Australian Government is taking action across the economy to deliver a reliable, secure and affordable energy system with improved outcomes for energy consumers which meets Australia’s international commitments.
We are delivering reforms to put downward pressure on electricity and gas prices and ensure our markets are well-regulated and transparent. We are enhancing long-term fuel security, and encouraging new reliable supply and technology. We're investing in new ways to make our energy system cleaner and more efficient.
Looking forward, we'll continue to build on our comprehensive plan to ensure Australian households, businesses and industries get a fair deal on energy.
The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources works closely with:
- Commonwealth and state and territory Energy Ministers
- the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC)
- the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)
- the Australian Energy Regulator (AER)
Together they oversee and regulate Australia’s National Energy Market (NEM), one of the largest interconnected power systems in the world. They also have responsibilities for the National (east, north and west) Gas Markets.
